I first met Jim when he made a presentation to our Rotary Club about the importance of music education. I thought of him as a high school music teacher, a Mr. Holland, if you will. And then he shows up at the Burrows Center for the Arts Theatre with his jazz band, Idle Fret. I was blown away. I knew he had the chops, but I didn’t know that he is also a singer. He plays multiple instruments, he sings, he acts, he dances. A true Renaissance man.
Next thing you know, I’m sitting in the audience at the Acting Company Theatre in Yuba City and here’s Jim performing in one of my absolute favorite shows, “Guys and Dolls.” He was one of the leads, Nathan Detroit. Wow!
And my latest encounter was hearing Jim play guitar and sing at the Martin Luther King Day celebration at Mt. Olivet Church. His performance was soulful to say the least. Jim is a very devout and spiritual man and we are truly blessed to have him in our community where he is so willing to share his many gifts.
